The opportunity

We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Lawyer with a strong interest in advising and defending employers and insurers in work injury damages and industrial common law claims. You will have the opportunity to work closely with Partner Joanna Apostolopoulos, managing personal injury matters involving issues of employer’s liability and claims arising pursuant to the Civil Liability Act, 2002 (NSW).

As a key member of our firm, you will be responsible for providing high quality legal advice & representation to a wide variety of clients, including insurers, self-insured employers, specialised insurers and regulators. You will engage in advocacy and manage litigation in the Supreme Court, District Court, and Personal Injury Commission.

The successful candidate will be engaged in:

  • Direct client access, working with insurers and corporate clients on personal injury matters.
  • Close collaboration with Partners in a strong team environment.
  • Supportive training and mentoring.
  • Advising top-tier clients on liability, strategy and risk management.
  • Managing personal injury claims and statutory indemnity claims requiring the application of the Civil Liability Act.
  • Analysis and advisory work, including indemnity, liability and quantum assessments.
  • Drafting court documents and contributing to litigation strategy.
  • Advocacy across multiple jurisdictions, including mediations and interlocutory matters.
  • Negotiating commercial outcomes for clients.

Specific skills and experience required for this role include:

  • Minimum 3+ years PAE in practising in common law personal injury claims
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills to be able to deal with clients and other parties.
  • Excellent drafting and analytical capability.
