About us

HWLE is not your typical law firm. Our rapid rise to become the largest legal partnership in Australia shows that in our case, the differences are real. We deliver first class legal advice to our government and commercial clients in every state and territory across Australia. Firm wide, we have over 270 Partners and 1700 people.

The opportunity

Join Australia's largest legal Partnership in our newly created role of Public Relations Specialist within our wider Marketing team. Here, you'll play a critical role in shaping the firm’s voice and reputation in the marketplace. Reporting to the Head of Marketing, you'll lead the development and execution of a sophisticated communications and media strategy that captures the essence of our business, amplifies our voice, and communicates our value to the market.

You'll be focussed on

  • Designing and implementing an integrated external communications and media strategy aligned with the firm’s vision and growth objectives.
  • Providing advice on reputation management and proactive media opportunities to safeguard and enhance the firm’s market standing.
  • Acting as the primary liaison for all media interactions - cultivating and strengthening relationships with senior journalists and key industry influencers.
  • Developing impactful campaigns that position the firm as an authority in priority sectors and emerging trends.
  • Partnering with National and State Practice Group Heads to craft tailored profiling strategies that showcase expertise and drive market differentiation.
  • Contributing to training programs to equip firm media participants with the skills to engage effectively.
  • Collaborating with external advisors to manage sensitive matters and ensure timely, strategic communication responses.
  • Leveraging data to monitor media impact, brand perception, and providing strategic insights.

To succeed in this role, ideally you'll have

  • Strong ability to influence, negotiate, and communicate with clarity and credibility.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering both strategic and operational plans that align with commercial objectives.
  • Excellent written communication and presentation skills, particularly for senior audiences.
  • A strong motivation to work closely with partners and clients, building trusted relationships, understanding their needs, and collaborating to deliver tailored solutions that achieve successful outcomes.
  • Existing media contacts are preferred but not essential. If you don’t have prior experience, we’re looking for someone eager to develop and map out media relationships.
  • Experience within professional services or the legal industry is preferred.
  • Familiarity with working with external agencies.
  • A genuine desire to work closely with partners and clients to support them in achieving successful outcomes.
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and deliver exceptional client service while maintaining professionalism under pressure.

  • Location: Flexible and determined based on the successful candidate’s location
  • Great culture and a huge networking platform: Be part of a firm renowned for its friendly and down-to-earth culture. We also have sports clubs, social club, monthly drinks and other networking initiatives across the nation.
