About us

HWL Ebsworth is not your typical law firm. Our rapid rise to become the largest legal partnership in Australia shows that in our case, the differences are real. We deliver first class legal advice to our government and commercial clients in every State and Territory across Australia. Firmwide, we have over 270 Partners and 1700 people. HWL Ebsworth has one of Australia’s leading Transport legal practices representing domestic and international airlines and their insurers, shipping companies, marine insurers, and a variety of other transport related businesses.

The opportunity

We have an opportunity to join our highly regarded Transport Practice Group in our Melbourne office. You'll work alongside Vicki Jenner who has over 24 years of experience practising across broad transport, insurance and personal injury fields including aviation claims, marine accident claims, cargo and property damage claims, public liability, product liability, workplace injuries, contribution and recovery proceedings, and the provision of advice with respect to a variety of aviation, marine, and insurance related issues.

The role is primarily disputes focused and will involve advising and acting on behalf of our varied clients, in relation to a range of third party claims (including personal injury, property damage, and other civil claims), major incidents, emergency response, insurance advice, and other aspects of our clients’ businesses.

The transport group is a specialised, close knit national team. As a result, you will have the opportunity to work directly with pre-eminent practitioners in this field and a range of prominent national clients. There is substantial opportunity for advancement and to build your career in this highly specialised, interesting, niche field of the law. We support flexible and part time working arrangements and are happy to work with you to achieve your goals in terms of work arrangements and work/life balance.

The transport group is a friendly and welcoming place where you are more than just a number or resource, and where everyone's contribution is valued and recognised.

To succeed in this role, ideally you'll have

  • at least 3+ years PAE in either transport law, insurance litigation, aviation, marine, personal injury litigation, or other civil litigation.
  • strong practice management skills and attention to detail
  • an ability to work both as part of a team and autonomously as required
  • a keen desire to learn and develop your technical skills in this varied, interesting and challenging role
