  • Make your mark in a newly created Legal Engineer role, with the opportunity to shape how Legora is delivered and scaled across the firm.

  • Be a part of a supportive and pragmatic Digital Intelligence team that values expertise, trust and collaboration.

  • Generous leave policies and flexible work arrangements available.

About us

HWLE Lawyers is not your typical law firm. Our rapid rise to become the largest legal partnership in Australia shows that in our case, the differences are real. We deliver first class legal advice to our government and commercial clients in every state and territory across Australia. Firm wide, we have over 270 Partners and 1900 people.

The opportunity

HWLE Lawyers is building a specialist Legal Engineering team within our Digital Intelligence function to support the rollout and ongoing optimisation of AI-enabled legal workflows through the Legora platform.

This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of law and technology, shaping how legal services are delivered at scale across a national firm.

In this role, you will report into the Head of Digital Intelligence - Simon Hill and work closely with lawyers, Legora Legal Engineers, AI Partners and practice group leaders to design, build and maintain high-quality, reusable legal workflows, prompts and toolkits that improve efficiency, consistency and client outcomes.

This is a national role, and we are open to candidates based in Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and build structured prompts, end-to-end legal workflows, practice playbooks and matter-specific toolkits.

  • Translate real legal work into practical, scalable AI-enabled solutions.

  • Test, troubleshoot and optimise workflows to ensure usability, accuracy and legal relevance.

  • Support rollout initiatives, including innovation sprints and practice deep dives.

  • Train and support lawyers in the use of AI tools (including hands-on, helpdesk-style support).

  • Maintain a governed library of assets, including version control and continuous improvement.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to drive adoption and refine solutions based on real-world usage.

  • Contribute to governance standards, ensuring responsible and compliant use of AI.

About you

  • Strong interest in legal technology and AI, with exposure to tools such as Legora, Harvey, Claude or similar.

  • Experience designing legal workflows, knowledge assets or process improvements (legal practice, knowledge management or legal innovation environments highly regarded).

  • Ability to translate complex legal or technical concepts into practical, user-friendly solutions.

  • Confident communicator with strong stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving, evolving environment.

We welcome candidates from a range of backgrounds, including lawyers, knowledge professionals and those with demonstrated technical capability working alongside legal teams.

What we offer

  • Work-Life Balance: We offer flexible work arrangements to support your work-life balance.

  • Location: We have cutting-edge offices conveniently located in the heart of the Brisbane CBD, Melbourne CBD and Sydney CBD amidst a fast-pace, high-networking legal community. Enjoy working in a state-of-the-art office environment with access to modern end of trip facilities.

  • Great culture and a huge networking platform: Be part of a firm renowned for its friendly and down-to-earth culture. We also have sports clubs, social club and monthly firmwide drinks.

  • Impact: Join a firm consistently ranked at the forefront of the Australian legal market, where your work is recognised nationally.

How to apply

To apply, please submit your CV via the 'Apply' function. Applicants must have full working rights in Australia and a valid practising certificate to apply. HWLE also strongly encourages applications from the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.

HWLE strives to create an inclusive environment where our people want and feel comfortable to bring their entire selves to work.
