About us
HWLE Lawyers is not your typical law firm. Our rapid rise to become the largest legal partnership in Australia shows that in our case, the differences are real. We deliver first class legal advice to our government and commercial clients in every State and Territory across Australia. Firm wide, we have over 270 Partners and 1900 people.

The opportunity

An exciting opportunity exists for a lawyer to join our nationally recognised Insurance Statutory Classes team, gaining exposure to a broad mix of public liability and dust disease work while working closely with respected Partners David Andersen and Scott Hay.

The practice is nationally integrated and led from Sydney, advising on complex dust disease claims across multiple jurisdictions. As a specialised and high-performing team, it plays a critical role within the broader workers’ compensation landscape, delivering strategic and high-value advice to insurer and corporate clients.

The scope of work includes:

  • Dust diseases litigation, including asbestos and silicosis claims;
  • Complex personal injury and workplace-related claims;
  • Insurance indemnity and policy interpretation issues;
  • Matters involving detailed medical, liability and causation analysis;
  • Exposure to claims spanning multiple jurisdictions across Australia;
  • Work across a diverse range of industries, including energy and resources, manufacturing, transport, property and government.

In this role, you will work closely with experienced practitioners, offering a unique opportunity to develop highly regarded, niche expertise in a collaborative and nationally connected team environment.

To succeed in this role, ideally, you'll have

  • at least 4+ years PAE;
  • proven experience working within Dust Disease or Workers compensation;
  • ability to draft clear and concise advice / communications;
  • good interpersonal and communication skills to be able to deal with clients and other parties;
  • a desire to develop your career and professional network in the Insurance industry.
