About us

HWL Ebsworth is not your typical law firm. Our rapid rise to become the largest legal partnership in Australia shows that in our case, the differences are real. We deliver first class legal advice to our government and commercial clients in every state and territory across Australia. Firm wide, we have over 270 Partners and 1700 people.

The opportunity

We have a unique opportunity for a dynamic candidate to join our highly regarded Sydney Banking & Finance team, working predominantly with Partners Chris Fanning, Abi Uthayachandran, and Annie Tseung. You will be a part of a sub team of lawyers and paralegals working on a diverse range of matters including corporate, health, real estate, and project development finance transactions across a number of asset classes. This sub team has a strong lender-client base, regularly advising major Australian banks, and other blue chip clients, as well as a growing list of private credit providers. It is a fast growing, relationship focussed team that is passionate about delivering exceptional value and consistent high quality service to clients.

As a Senior Associate, you will have end-to-end responsibility for transactions and be capable of operating autonomously. We are looking for someone who thrives in a team environment but is also confident working independently. You will also play a key leadership role within the team mentoring junior lawyers, guiding their development and helping maintain the team's strong sense of unity and purpose.  Ideally, you will be a natural leader who is passionate about developing others and help drive both client outcomes and team success.

You will be part of a close, supportive team that will be focussed on bringing the very best out of you. The Partners do not 'ring fence' clients - you will be supported and encouraged to build and nurture relationships with new and existing clients, preparing you for long term success in your career.

To succeed in this role, ideally you'll have

  • strong document drafting skills and technical ability
  • strategic and commercial thinking capabilities, with a solutions-based mindset
  • excellent transaction management skills
  • client-focused mindset and a demonstrated ability to form enduring relationships
  • strong leadership and mentoring skills - you enjoy seeing others succeed

Our size, range of experience and competitive pricing model will provide you with everything you need to succeed.
