The opportunity
We have an opportunity for a high performing Solicitor or Associate to join our highly regarded Commonwealth Government practice, led by Michael Palfrey and Will Sharpe. This team works in government and administrative law, conducting merits and judicial review on behalf of the Commonwealth government in a range of litigation matters. You will also have exposure to privacy and freedom of information
You will be a part of our local team in Sydney working with 13 lawyers and 5 paralegals and a national team of 3 Partners, 17 lawyers and 10 paralegals. You'll get direct client access and scope to team up with our national colleagues. This is a unique opportunity to take your career to the next level and be a part of a growing practice.
In this role, you will:
- manage a high-volume litigation practice on behalf of Commonwealth Government agencies;
- conduct day-to-day matters under supervision and guidance;
- draft advice and litigation strategies;
- provide advice on prospects of success;
- review summons material and evidence;
- prepare evidence and assist in the preparation of submissions;
- prepare documents in accordance with court and Tribunal deadlines; and
- undertake solicitor advocacy in the Administrative Review Tribunal.
You will also:
- work on a broad and engaging range of matters;
- gain direct client exposure and have the opportunity to build strong professional relationships;
- collaborate closely with Partners and senior lawyers within the team;
- receive meaningful supervision and support, with a genuine focus on your development as a valued member of the team.
Ideally you will have:
- 1-3 years post admission experience within litigation;
- previous public law or government experience viewed favourably;
- well-developed knowledge and a keen interest in Administrative Law;
- good interpersonal and communication skills to be able to deal with clients and other parties;
- excellent document drafting and advice writing skills; and
- a desire to develop your career in private legal practice.
