About us

HWLE is not your typical law firm. Our rapid rise to become the largest legal partnership in Australia shows that in our case, the differences are real. We deliver first class legal advice to our government and commercial clients in every state and territory across Australia. Firm wide, we have over 270 Partners and 1900 people.

The opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Finance Support Officer to join our growing national Finance team. In this role, you'll play a key part in ensuring matters are accurately established and managed within Aderant, with billing structures, pricing arrangements and controls correctly configured from the outset. Acting as a trusted point of contact for Partners and Personal Assistants, you'll provide practical support and guidance through our Finance Helpdesk, helping to drive billing accuracy, efficiency and exceptional service across the firm.

You'll be busy with

  • Leading and supporting the accurate setup of matters in Aderant, including fixed fee and alternative pricing arrangements
  • Understanding and applying matter classifications that impact Partner KPIs, reporting and financial outcomes
  • Ensuring client pricing arrangements are accurately translated into system configuration and billing structures
  • Acting as a quality control point for complex matters
  • Providing day-to-day support and guidance to Personal Assistants on billing processes, system functionality and matter management
  • Assisting with draft bill troubleshooting, billing adjustments within agreed parameters and resolution of billing issues prior to month-end
  • Reducing reliance on ad-hoc finance escalation through practice support and knowledge sharing
  • Monitoring and responding to Finance Helpdesk requests, ensuring timely resolution and closure
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and delivering training and support to Personal Assistants across the firm

To succeed in this role, ideally you'll have

  • Demonstrated experience using legal practice management systems, with Aderant experience highly regarded
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with both Partners and Personal Assistants
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities
  • A practical, solutions-focused mindset and a commitment to customer service
