About us
HWLE is not your typical law firm. Our rapid rise to become the largest legal partnership in Australia shows that in our case, the differences are real. We deliver first class legal advice to our government and commercial clients in every state and territory across Australia. Firm wide, we have over 270 Partners and 1900 people.
The opportunity
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Law Clerk to join our Darwin team on a full-time basis or in a capacity aligned with their studies across five days per week. This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate currently studying law who is looking to build their experience while supporting our Darwin team. This role offers the opportunity to develop within a strong firm, with clear pathways for growth and progression, and access to partners, supervision and mentorship. If you are motivated to gain hands on experience in a professional legal environment, this opportunity is for you.
This is not a back-room admin position—you will be embedded in the action from day one. Working shoulder-to-shoulder with partners, senior lawyers and talented junior team members, you will contribute to significant commercial transactions, and complex litigation matters that shape the Northern Territory’s business landscape.
In this fast-paced, hands-on role, you will:
- work closely with partners and senior lawyers on major commercial deals and high-value disputes;
- collaborate across the team to progress active matters, with real exposure to strategic decision-making;
- draft and assist with client and third-party correspondence, transactional documents, and court materials;
- contribute meaningfully across a diverse range of commercial files, building depth and versatility in your legal skillset;
- assist with settlements and coordinate with key stakeholders, including the Land Titles Office, courts and regulatory authorities; and
- provide high-quality administrative and matter support to ensure matters run efficiently and to a professional standard.
You will be supported in a genuinely collaborative environment that values initiative, precision and accountability. For the right candidate, there are clear, merit-based opportunities for progression, hands-on learning, and early responsibility on sophisticated, high-impact work.
To succeed in this role, ideally, you'll have
- currently undertaking a Bachelor of Laws;
- experience providing admin support;
- excellent organisational skills with a mature, proactive approach;
- have excellent communication skills;
- have strong teamwork skills; and
- experience working within a law firm is advantageous.
