The opportunity

We have a unique opportunity for a dynamic and experienced lawyer to join our growing Health team. As part of the team, you will provide legal advice to Australia’s leading medical defence organisations, commercial health insurers, and some of the largest private health entities and Hospitals in Australia.

You will have the opportunity to work on a diverse and dynamic range of matters with individual health practitioners and health organisations across a wide range of matters, including:

  • Complex high quantum civil litigation;
  • Coronial inquests;
  • Regulatory complaints and investigations involving AHPRA/OHO (including litigated matters in the Queensland Civil & Administrative Tribunal);
  • Statutory investigations, clinical reviews and Commissions of Inquiry;
  • Private Hospital credentialing and accreditation disputes;
  • Professional college and training investigations and disputes.

You will be a key part of a collegiate team who work closely together to grow the national practice, share ideas and expertise, and to delivery market-leading services to our growing client base.

You'll be responsible for

  • The end-to-end management of complex health law matters;
  • The provision of timely and accurate advice to our clients;
  • Supporting our clients through challenging and difficult processes and procedures;
  • Appearance at mediations, witness interviews, inquests and disciplinary hearings;
  • Client management and relationships;
  • Marketing and business development.

Ideally, you'll bring

  • Experience and expertise in medical indemnity, health, and/or regulatory work;
  • Excellent written and oral skills and ability to engage well with insurers, corporate counsel of health entities, individual practitioners and management of health clinics;
  • A passion for complex, diverse and dynamic work;
  • A passion for medico-legal issues and claims management; and
  • Strong leadership skills to assist in developing our junior cohort.
